Survey Crew Chief

About the role

At Horrocks we value our people and the communities we serve. As a Survey Crew Chief you will work on large, multi‑discipline transportation and land‑development projects, gaining diverse field and technical experience.

Key responsibilities

• Operate conventional survey equipment, GPS systems, digital levels and Trimble devices to collect topographic, boundary and construction control data.
• Prepare clear, accurate field notes and transfer information to the office support team.
• Lead daily field operations, assign tasks, mentor junior staff and ensure quality deliverables.
• Communicate with on‑site client representatives, report potential construction issues and coordinate with project managers.
• Analyze survey maps, locate monumentation and support property‑line retracement.

Required profile

• 8‑10+ years of progressive surveying experience, including 5+ years as a Survey Crew Chief or equivalent leadership role.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle; subject to Motor Vehicle Record check.
• Experience with transportation, municipal, land‑development and boundary surveying projects.
• Willingness to work primarily in the field while handling occasional office tasks.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Trimble equipment and GPS surveying tools.
• Lidar scanning (mobile, aerial, ground‑based) experience.
• Knowledge of Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center and MS Office.
• Familiarity with OPUS solutions, point‑cloud processing and linework codes.
• Understanding of UDOT and local safety standards.
