About the role
The Laboratory Technical Manager is responsible for overseeing the day‑to‑day operations of the Instrumentation laboratory, leading a team of technical staff and ensuring that all testing activities meet the highest standards of quality, compliance and efficiency. The role combines technical expertise with strong leadership to deliver cost‑effective, timely results while adhering to ISO/IEC 17025 and SGS corporate policies.
Key responsibilities
- Manage and supervise laboratory staff, schedule technicians, allocate resources and ensure proper maintenance and calibration of equipment.
- Develop new testing services, evaluate and validate testing methods, and stay current with scientific advancements and industry trends.
- Maintain the laboratory management system in line with ISO/IEC 17025, handle customer inquiries, complaints and corrective actions, and ensure accurate, reliable reporting.
- Implement and monitor OI/HSE initiatives, conduct risk assessments, enforce safety rules and ensure proper waste disposal.
Required profile
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a related field.
- At least 10 years of experience in operational laboratory management, including supervisory roles.
- Familiarity with international standards such as ISO/IEC 17025 and SGS Laboratory Information Management System (SLIM).
- Strong analytical thinking, leadership abilities and excellent organizational skills.
Required skills
- Hands‑on experience with high‑tech analytical equipment: AAS, ICP‑OES, GC‑MS, GC‑FID, HPLC, Gallery Discreet Analyzer.
- Proficiency in analytical method validation, statistical control and measurement uncertainty evaluation.
- Knowledge of chemical hazardous waste handling, industrial hygiene and environmental health standards.
- Ability to operate and maintain complex laboratory instrumentation and related software.
