Investigator – Temporary Position

About the role

The Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) of the United Nations is seeking a temporary Investigator to join its Operational Standards & Support Section in New York. Reporting to the Chief of OSSS, the incumbent will support the Investigations Division in addressing alleged misconduct, fraud, corruption and other violations of UN regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, organize, conduct and manage investigations of alleged misconduct, fraud, corruption, sexual exploitation and abuse, and other violations of UN rules.
• Respond to operational support requests from the ID/OIOS Director and Deputy Directors, including post‑investigation activities.
• Advise on the operational implications of UN jurisprudence and General Assembly resolutions.
• Promote cooperation with other OIOS divisions, UN Secretariat offices and Field Missions.
• Develop, maintain and update guidance material, policies and procedures, and monitor their implementation.
• Support intake services, including hotline management, jurisdictional analysis and preliminary assessments.
• Assist the centralized referral service by drafting correspondence, compiling documentation and tracking outcomes.
• Review investigation reports for quality assurance and provide related communications.
• Oversee statistical reporting, prepare analytical outputs and identify trends.

Required profile

• Ability to plan, organize and manage complex investigations.
• Experience in reviewing and ensuring quality of investigative reports.
• Familiarity with UN regulations, rules and relevant jurisprudence.
• Strong analytical skills for data collection, trend analysis and statistical reporting.
• Capacity to work collaboratively across multiple UN divisions and external entities.
