Housing Problem Solving Specialist (temporary)

About the role

The Housing Problem Solving Specialist works directly with families facing a housing crisis, providing trauma‑informed, strengths‑based support to help them maintain or quickly secure safe housing.

Key responsibilities

• Assess families’ eligibility for San Francisco’s Homelessness Response System and explain how to access shelter, rental subsidies, and permanent supportive housing.
• Provide referrals for emergency shelters, food, basic needs and other resources, and maintain up‑to‑date records in Compass’ Salesforce database and the city‑wide ONE System.
• Offer problem‑solving support such as network mapping, motivational interviewing, conflict resolution, and mediation to help families secure housing.
• De‑escalate potentially volatile situations and support families through the connection to housing opportunities.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in social work or a related field, preferably with families in crisis.
• Excellent interpersonal, listening and communication skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Salesforce.
• Strong computer skills in Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

What we offer

• Hourly compensation of $27‑$31.
• Full‑time schedule, Monday‑Friday, standard working hours.
• Potential extension beyond the initial two‑month term.
