General Mechanic – Facilities Maintenance

About the role

This position supports Ochsner Health’s facilities by responding to departmental maintenance needs, performing repairs or replacements of equipment, and ensuring the reliable operation of systems such as nurse call, fire alarm, medical gas, and ceiling infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Perform general repairs, troubleshooting, and daily maintenance inspections in the assigned area.
• Complete preventive maintenance inspections according to schedule and follow up on assignments.
• Utilize hand and power tools for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting tasks.
• Refer requests beyond scope to the Facilities Manager and adhere to company policies and regulatory standards.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience with ability to work independently.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Preferred experience in a healthcare environment.

Required skills

• Plumbing, electrical, HVAC‑R, carpentry, and painting.
• Proficiency with hand and power tools.
• Ability to read schematics, blueprints, and technical specifications.
• Troubleshooting and problem‑solving equipment issues.
