Field Service Technician II – Natural Gas Refrigeration

About the role

The Field Service Technician II provides basic to advanced maintenance, installation, and overhaul of natural gas refrigeration and process systems. Working under general guidance, the technician supports senior staff and gains proficiency for future senior‑level responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Perform mechanical inspections and rebuilds of compressors, engines, and controls in remote locations with limited supervision.
• Diagnose and repair engine/compressor failures, electrical systems, basic controls, and PLC‑related issues.
• Install new units, commission equipment, and conduct start‑up inspections.
• Submit accurate field service reports, expense reports, and timesheets daily.
• Provide basic leadership and training to new field technicians.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED; certification in Refrigeration Theory and Principles.
• Minimum 5 years experience with refrigeration and process systems.
• Proof of universal EPA certification and, if required, state refrigeration registration.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to pass pre‑employment drug screen, background check, and physical.

Required skills

• Refrigeration theory and EPA universal certification.
• Mechanical inspection tools: micrometers, pressure gauges, laser alignment, dial indicators.
• Electrical troubleshooting, PLC and microprocessor basics.
• Use of OEM‑specific instruments, digital volt‑ohm meters, hydraulic torqueing equipment.
• Reading and interpreting P&ID diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
