Family Engagement Intern (Unpaid)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a motivated Family Engagement Intern to support its NYSA program. This hybrid, unpaid internship runs from June 1 to August 28, 2026, offering hands‑on experience in outreach, data tracking, and family communication within a humanitarian context.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in Student Support Team onboarding, attend all staff training, and join program meetings.
• Conduct direct outreach to families for enrollment, distribute informational materials, and manage pre‑assessments.
• Assist with late arrivals, early dismissals, and coordinate parent‑teacher conferences.
• Compile daily attendance data in Excel and other internal systems.
• Reach out to families of absent or tardy students, using interpretation services as needed.
• Promote special events such as Talent Shows and International Food and Fashion Shows.
• Distribute and collect required student forms and the weekly family newsletter.
• Complete reporting, observation documentation, and case noting on time.
• Support post‑Academy activities, including survey distribution and data entry.

Required profile

• Solutions‑driven, passionate about supporting newcomer families.
• Available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week, with flexibility for additional hours.
• Comfortable attending in‑person training sessions and hybrid work arrangements.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with diverse teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data tracking.
