About the role
Compass Minerals is seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS&S) Training Specialist for its Cote Blanche, LA operation. The role will drive safety initiatives through training, compliance, audits, and employee engagement, fostering a safety‑first culture.
Key responsibilities
- Develop training programs and create materials to implement EHS&S policies.
- Lead classroom and hands‑on training sessions on company procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Educate staff on compliance, accompany inspectors during regulatory inspections, and ensure adherence to MSHA, EPA, LDEQ and ATF standards.
- Identify hazards, assess risks and implement control measures.
- Participate in accident investigations, conduct root‑cause analysis and support corrective actions.
- Promote a strong safety‑first culture across the site.
- Assess competency through practical evaluations and ensure miners meet required skill levels.
- Coach and mentor new and experienced miners.
- Design, implement and manage a site‑wide Learning Management System (LMS).
- Maintain accurate training records, assessments and progress reports.
- Enter incidents, near‑misses and first‑aid events into reporting systems.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree, diploma or certificate in a Health and Safety discipline.
- 5‑7 years of full‑time safety leadership experience administering health, safety and training programs.
- 3‑5 years of MSHA underground or surface mining experience (preferred).
- Proven ability to interpret and align MSHA, EPA, LDEQ and ATF regulations with company policies.
Required skills
- Learning Management System (LMS) administration.
- Knowledge of MSHA regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of EPA regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of LDEQ regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of ATF regulatory requirements.
- Incident reporting system usage.
