Engineering Manager

About the role

As an Engineering Manager at Clay, you will lead a high‑performing software team through a period of rapid growth. You will own the team’s mission, drive delivery of high‑quality solutions, and nurture a collaborative, motivated culture.

Key responsibilities

• Define team purpose, set clear goals, and introduce frameworks for autonomous day‑to‑day prioritization.
• Plan, prioritize, and staff the team roadmap in collaboration with product managers, allocating work to the right engineers at the right time.
• Build and maintain a strong team culture, supporting individual career development and motivation.
• Recruit, interview, and onboard top engineering talent, ensuring rapid ramp‑up and effective contribution.
• Lead engineering‑wide initiatives that improve excellence, scalability, and overall engineering processes.
• Own outcomes for the team by establishing smooth processes, maintaining accountability, and representing the team across the organization.

Required profile

• 2+ years of management experience and 6+ years of overall software development experience.
• Managed and coached at least 3 direct reports in a fast‑paced environment.
• Empathetic communicator who prioritizes curiosity, ensures all voices are heard, and can convey nuanced ideas to varied audiences.
