Director, Sr. Business and Technology Transactions Counsel

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking a highly skilled and energetic legal professional to lead IP licensing, joint development, and other complex technology transactions. The Director, Sr. Business and Technology Transactions Counsel will advise business stakeholders, negotiate agreements, and support the company’s strategic growth plans. This role reports to a Senior Director in the Legal and Compliance Organization.

Key responsibilities

• Provide business and legal advice to internal stakeholders on IP licensing, joint development, collaboration and product qualification agreements.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of IP and commercial contracts to achieve business objectives.
• Counsel sales and product teams on contract provisions, risk mitigation, indemnifications and liability issues.
• Partner with other Legal and Compliance groups to deliver comprehensive legal support.
• Manage outside counsel, ensuring quality of work product and adherence to budgets.
• Participate in process and technology projects to improve legal service efficiency.

Required profile

• Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school.
• 10+ years of relevant legal experience focusing on IP licensing, patent licensing, joint development agreements, and royalty‑bearing transactions.
• Licensed to practice law in California.
• Excellent negotiation, written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively across global teams and travel occasionally.
