Director & Head of Art Department

About the role

East Texas A&M University seeks a senior academic leader to serve as Director and Head of the Department of Art. This twelve‑month, full‑time appointment carries senior faculty rank with tenure and oversees the department’s activities across the Commerce and Dallas campuses.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct a comprehensive assessment of departmental programs and develop a strategic plan that aligns with institutional goals and regional demand.
• Provide year‑round leadership for curriculum development, faculty hiring, evaluation, promotion, and tenure processes.
• Strengthen and expand partnerships with K‑12 schools, arts organizations, design firms, and community groups to enhance student opportunities and departmental visibility.
• Manage the department’s budget, facilities, enrollment, and operational functions at both campuses.
• Promote faculty productivity, scholarly and creative activity, and support professional development across visual communication, studio art, and art education programs.

Required profile

• Proven experience as an academic administrator in art, design, or related fields, preferably overseeing multi‑site programs.
• Demonstrated ability to lead strategic planning, program assessment, and curriculum innovation.
• Strong record of building external partnerships and securing external funding.
• Commitment to faculty mentorship, student success, and regional community engagement.
