Deck Mate (Mate I/II/III) – Marine Transportation

About the role

Curtin Maritime is seeking experienced Deck Mates (Mate I, II, III) to work directly with the Port Captain and Vessel Captain. The role supports safe, efficient vessel operations while upholding the company’s core values of Innovation, Integrity, and Efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Captain as directed.
• Train and develop crew in internal procedures, leading by example.
• Provide expertise in voyage planning and execution, focusing on efficiency and safety.
• Maintain the Vessel Management System, ensure compliance, and complete required reporting.
• Manage crew responsibilities related to vessel upkeep and morale.

Required profile

• Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to handle stressful situations and make safe decisions under pressure.
• Excellent communication skills and a commitment to mentoring crew members.
• Physical agility to work on deck, lift at least 40 lb, handle lines, and operate deck machinery.
• Capability to work in confined spaces, darkness, and during emergencies.

Required skills

• TWIC Card.
• CG Medical Certificate.
• MROP FCC License.
• Radar Unlimited certification.
• STCW Basic Training (with advanced modules for higher levels).
• Proficiency with the Vessel Management System.
• Deckhand operations and boat handling.
• Engine room knowledge and mechanical repair abilities.
• Crew management and voyage planning experience.
