About the role
The New York Times is seeking a Communications Associate to support rapid‑response and reputation‑management efforts with external audiences. You will join the external communications team, helping to defend the value of our journalism, products, and people across media, social platforms, and public commentary.
Key responsibilities
- Assist internal and external colleagues in designing communications plans, tracking issues, and producing after‑action reports.
- Support the rapid‑response team by monitoring, triaging, and analyzing public feedback on Times journalism.
- Participate in an on‑call rotation to handle media inquiries after hours and on weekends.
- Build and maintain email lists, track audience metrics, and share outcomes to highlight successes.
- Develop collaborative relationships with stakeholders at all organizational levels.
Required profile
- 2+ years of experience in communications, public affairs, or marketing.
- Detail‑oriented, data‑savvy, and comfortable working in high‑volume information flows.
- Familiarity with the media and social‑media landscape.
- Ability to think strategically, adapt quickly, and work independently.
