Civil Design Group Manager

About the role

The Mannik & Smith Group, Inc. (MSG) is seeking a Civil Design Group Manager to lead its civil design teams in Columbus, OH. This senior position will oversee daily operations, staffing, and project health across a multidisciplinary consulting environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead multiple civil design teams, assigning work to balance workload and meet project deadlines.
• Develop staffing plans, monitor utilization, billable hours, and overall project health (scope, schedule, budget).
• Collaborate with team leaders and project managers to identify training and personnel needs.
• Mentor staff while executing MSG’s growth strategy.
• Prepare proposals, contracts, and manage projects to successful completion.
• Coordinate with other MSG disciplines such as Surveying, Environmental, Geotechnical, Structural, Traffic, Transportation, Landscape Architecture, Funding Strategies, and Construction Administration.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing multiple civil design engineers or teams across projects and disciplines.
• Established management process or style with a focus on mentorship.
• Willingness to teach and develop junior staff.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly encouraged.

Required skills

• Professional Engineer (PE) license (preferred).
