Civil Design Engineer – 3-5 Years Experience

About the role

KPFF Consulting Engineers is seeking a Civil Design Engineer to join its NorCal Civil team in San Francisco. This position offers the chance to take on greater project responsibility while expanding technical expertise, client interaction, and leadership abilities.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop engineering plans for site development, grading, drainage, stormwater, utility, and roadway improvement projects using Civil 3D.
• Perform engineering calculations, technical analyses, and design studies.
• Prepare construction documents, specifications, and supporting technical documentation.
• Support project planning, scheduling, permitting, agency coordination, and regulatory approvals.
• Collaborate with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal teams to ensure successful project delivery.
• Conduct site visits, field investigations, and data collection to verify design assumptions.
• Participate in design reviews, quality control, and provide guidance to junior staff.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• 3‑5 years of civil engineering design experience.
• Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification; progress toward Professional Engineer licensure.
• Ability to conduct occasional site visits and field work.

Required skills

• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite.
