About the role
The International Rescue Committee’s Children’s Legal Services program in New York is seeking an unpaid legal intern to support unaccompanied children navigating the U.S. immigration system. The internship runs from June 1st to August 21st, 2026, and combines on‑site and remote work.
Key responsibilities
- Participate in client meetings to build rapport with unaccompanied children.
- Provide administrative assistance such as tracking upcoming court hearings, communicating with clients, preparing applications, drafting supporting documents, and filing with relevant agencies.
- Conduct research on immigration law, country conditions, and related topics.
- Attend online immigration law trainings and webinars.
- Coordinate with other IRC New York programs to secure additional resources for clients, including educational support.
Required profile
- Interest in immigration law and humanitarian work.
- Willingness to work with vulnerable children in a trauma‑informed, client‑centered environment.
