Chief Mechanical Inspector

About the role

Bureau Veritas is seeking a Chief Mechanical Inspector to ensure compliance with mechanical codes for commercial and residential projects in Florida. The role involves technical inspections, plan reviews, and coordination with city clients, contractors, and design professionals.

Key responsibilities

• Communicate technical information and code requirements to owners, contractors, municipal clients, and staff.
• Respond to inquiries and implement enforcement procedures for mechanical code violations.
• Conduct on‑site inspections and review plans to verify compliance with the Florida Building Code.
• Prepare correction notices and other correspondence outlining required code corrections.
• Collaborate with city inspection staff, developers, architects, and engineers to resolve code interpretation issues.
• Participate in code interpretation discussions and attend training to improve technical and interpersonal skills.

Required profile

• State of Florida Professional Engineer (PE) in mechanical, or State of Florida Plan Review License (PX) and Inspector License (BN) in mechanical.
• Alternatively, Journeyman Mechanical Certificate with ten years of mechanical practice.
• Minimum 10 years supervisory experience working within the Florida Building Code.
• Certified or certifiable as a Plans Examiner by Miami‑Dade or Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals (BORA) is a plus.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of the Florida Building Code and related mechanical regulations.
• Ability to interpret mechanical codes and evaluate project proposals for compliance.
• Experience conducting technical inspections and plan reviews for commercial and residential structures.
• Strong oral and written communication for preparing correction notices and interacting with stakeholders.
