Building Inspector – Construction Safety & Compliance

About the role

Join Bureau Veritas as a Building Inspector and play a vital role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and quality of construction projects across Orange County. You will conduct thorough inspections at various stages of construction, renovation, or alteration, guaranteeing adherence to local building codes and standards.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial properties to verify compliance with building codes, zoning regulations, and other applicable standards.
• Review building plans, blueprints, and specifications to identify discrepancies and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Perform onsite inspections during different construction phases, evaluating structural integrity, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, energy, accessibility, and overall safety measures.
• Document findings accurately, prepare detailed reports, and issue citations or stop‑work orders when necessary.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to resolve compliance issues and provide guidance on corrective actions.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent with relevant experience in building inspection, construction trades, or construction management.
• Certification as a building inspector or ability to obtain ICC certification within a specified timeframe.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to perform rapid arithmetic calculations.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel independently to various job sites.

Required skills

• ICC Residential Building certification (or ability to obtain).
• ICC Commercial Building certification (or ability to obtain).
• Knowledge of local, state, and national building codes and regulations.
• Proficiency with computer software for documentation, reporting, and communication.
