Bridge Engineer – Engineer 7 (District 08)

About the role

The District 08 Bridge Inspection and Maintenance Section is seeking an Engineer 7 to lead its Bridge Inspection and Maintenance Program. Reporting to the Assistant District Administrator of Operations, the incumbent will oversee daily operations, ensure compliance with state regulations, and support the safety and longevity of the district’s bridge assets.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the daily activities of the Bridge Maintenance and Inspection Section, including staff supervision and workload planning.
• Coordinate bridge inspections, develop maintenance schedules, and prioritize repair projects.
• Interpret unforeseen field conditions and make timely decisions to maintain bridge safety.
• Participate in DOTD‑structured training, continuing education classes, and professional conferences.
• Ensure all work complies with Louisiana civil service laws, DOTD policies, and relevant engineering standards.

Required profile

• Current Louisiana professional engineering license (or license from another state with the ability to obtain a Louisiana license before appointment).
• Either three years of licensed engineering experience or seven years of professional engineering experience.
• Advanced degree substitutions: a master’s degree substitutes one year, a doctorate substitutes two years of experience (maximum two years).
• Self‑motivated, capable of working with minimal supervision, and able to interpret complex engineering situations.

Required skills

• Professional engineering licensure (PE) in Louisiana or ability to obtain it.
• Knowledge of bridge inspection and maintenance practices.
• Familiarity with state civil service regulations and DOTD policies.
