Brewer I – Production Brewing Role

About the role

The Brewer operates a 120‑barrel automated brewing system at Devils Backbone Outpost Taproom, handling all stages from milling to wort cooling and post‑brew sanitation. The role includes cellar duties such as yeast pitching, filtration, beer transfers, and equipment maintenance while working a rotating schedule of 5 eight‑hour shifts per week.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor electronic brew systems covering milling, mashing, lautering, boiling, hop additions, whirlpool and wort cooling.
• Perform pre‑ and post‑cleaning, sanitation of transfer lines and vessels, and conduct tank CIPs.
• Handle cellar tasks: yeast pitching, filtration, beer transfers, fermentation additions, and parts maintenance.
• Assist maintenance technicians with equipment repairs and follow cleaning schedules.
• Maintain accurate production records, inventory of raw materials and chemicals, and ensure safety compliance.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; must be at least 21 years old.
• Minimum two years brewing experience (assistant brewer or brewer preferred).
• Ability to lift 50 lb regularly and occasional lifts up to 150 lb.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, including evenings, nights and occasional Saturdays.

Required skills

• Operation of automated brewing systems.
• Forklift and pallet jack operation (training provided).
• Handling of hazardous chemicals and use of a fitted respirator.
• Interpretation of technical bulletins and equipment schematics.
