Behavioral Health Counselor – Community Integration Home (Columbus)

About the role

Join the State of Georgia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities as a Behavioral Health Counselor at the Community Integration Home in Columbus. You will provide counseling, crisis intervention, and support to residents, helping them achieve mental health and recovery goals.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct individual and group counseling sessions, develop and implement treatment plans, and monitor client progress.
• Assess residents’ psychiatric symptoms, intervene as needed, and coordinate with clinicians for timely mental health services.
• Create behavioral contracts, provide positive reinforcement, and facilitate conflict resolution.
• Manage medication inventories, coordinate refills, and audit documentation to ensure compliance with DBHDD regulations.
• Document all services, prepare weekly summary reports, and maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in counseling or a related field and at least four years of relevant experience (or one year at a lower‑level Behavioral Health Counselor position).
• Current Georgia licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Associate Professional Counselor, Licensed Social Worker, or equivalent in good standing.
• Ability to work under general supervision, handle confidential information, and meet state background‑check and health‑screening requirements.

Required skills

• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
• Knowledge of HIPAA privacy and security regulations.
