Backend Software Engineer – Level 4

About the role

Snap Inc. is seeking a Backend Software Engineer (Level 4) to design, build, and operate critical, high‑scale services that power core user experiences such as identity, friend graphs, and persistence layers. You will collaborate across product and engineering teams to deliver innovative solutions while upholding Snap’s privacy‑first standards.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain highly available backend services at massive scale.
• Work with cross‑functional teams to translate product requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Write, test, and debug code with a focus on quality, security, and operational excellence.
• Participate in incident response, hot‑fixes, and post‑mortem analyses.
• Leverage AI tools and high‑velocity engineering workflows to accelerate development while ensuring architectural integrity.

Required profile

• 2+ years of professional software development experience (or equivalent academic background).
• Proven experience operating highly available systems at significant scale.
• Ability to independently deliver medium‑sized features across multiple pull requests.
• Strong collaboration skills and a willingness to engage in on‑call or incident work.
