Backend Engineer

About the role

Pelago is seeking a Backend Engineer to help build and scale its virtual clinic platform for substance‑use management. You will work closely with product, design, data and clinical teams to create safe, reliable, AI‑augmented services that support hundreds of employers and millions of members.

Key responsibilities

• Own end‑to‑end problem spaces, from discovery through delivery and iteration.
• Design, develop and evolve backend systems that enable scalable, secure, and AI‑enhanced workflows.
• Use data, experiments and metrics to validate the impact of your solutions on member outcomes.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally to balance clinical constraints, regulatory requirements and technical trade‑offs.
• Contribute to the evolution of development processes, tooling and culture.
