About the role
The Asylum Seeker Legal Services Intern will support the IRC immigration legal team in New York by assisting with client intake, drafting immigration applications, and maintaining case files. This part‑time, hybrid internship offers hands‑on exposure to U.S. asylum and immigration law while contributing to the organization’s mission to protect vulnerable populations.
Key responsibilities
- Assist immigration attorneys in preparing applications such as Asylum, Employment Authorization, and TPS.
- Coordinate legal consultations and follow‑up communication with clients.
- Conduct research on immigration issues and relevant case law.
- Organize, sort, and file client documents while ensuring confidentiality.
- Provide translation or interpretation services when needed.
- Perform other clerical and administrative duties as assigned.
Required profile
- Undergraduate student in social sciences, international relations, or related field, or current law student.
- Minimum availability of 15 hours per week (35+ hours preferred).
- Strong interest in helping immigrants in New York.
- Ability to work under supervision and meet deadlines.
