About the role
Under direct supervision, the Assistant Teacher – Special Education supports classroom teachers in delivering instruction and services to students with special needs for the 2026‑27 school year. The role involves working with small groups or individual students, assisting with behavior management, and helping with administrative tasks related to the ARD/IEP process.
Key responsibilities
- Assist teachers with academic goals by providing one‑on‑one or small‑group support.
- Support classroom management and behavioral plans to maintain a learning‑focused environment.
- Supervise students during breakfast, recess, lunch, dismissal, and special events.
- Prepare and enter data for ARD/IEP documentation and special‑education reports.
- Help plan, prepare, and implement differentiated instruction for individuals or groups.
- Work in various settings such as Life Skills, Behavior, Resource, or In‑Class Support, adapting assignments as needed.
- Participate in CPI certification or equivalent training for de‑escalation and legal restraint procedures.
Required profile
- High School Diploma or GED; 48 college hours preferred.
- Experience working with children in an educational setting preferred.
- Texas Educational Aide Certification preferred or ability to obtain it.
- Ability to work under pressure, follow direction, and communicate effectively with staff and external partners.
- Proficiency with district computer systems, databases, spreadsheets, and word‑processing software.
- Capability to analyze data and maintain accurate records.
Required skills
- Computer software proficiency (district database, spreadsheet, word processing).
- Data entry and record‑keeping.
- Physical assistance skills (lifting, positioning, supporting non‑ambulatory students).
