Assistant Professor of Chemistry (Cosmetic/Formulation or Organic)

About the role

Cal Poly Pomona's Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, in the College of Science, is hiring one tenure-track Assistant Professor to join the faculty starting Fall 2027. The position is open to candidates in cosmetic or formulation chemistry from any subdiscipline and/or organic chemistry, and to those with strong interests in teaching and research at a primarily undergraduate institution.

Key responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate lectures and laboratory classes in your area of expertise.
• Follow the Teacher-Scholar model, combining excellence in teaching and advising with research and scholarly achievement.
• Contribute to service to the University and to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field, including completion of graduate-level coursework in the area of expertise by the start date, or a certificate of imminent conferral.
• Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and developing lecture and laboratory courses in organic or analytical chemistry.
• Commitment to diversity and inclusion, shown by a teaching philosophy addressing at least two inclusive-excellence criteria.
• Potential to establish an active research program involving undergraduate and M.S.-level students.

Preferred qualifications

• University or college teaching experience in chemistry lecture and/or laboratory courses.
• Postdoctoral experience in organic or analytical chemistry.
• Interest in teaching at all levels and in developing upper-division undergraduate and graduate courses.
• Familiarity with techniques that promote student engagement, equity and success.
