Assistant Professor, Chemical and Materials Engineering (Tenure-Track)

About the role

Cal Poly Pomona, a California State University polytechnic university, is hiring an Assistant Professor for a tenure-track position in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, starting in August 2027 (Fall semester). The position is full time, on site in Pomona, and falls under Unit 3 of the California Faculty Association.

Key responsibilities

• Teach a broad range of chemical engineering courses and laboratories, including material and energy balances, thermodynamics, transport phenomena, unit operations, process design and emerging technologies.
• Advise undergraduate and graduate students.
• Develop curriculum and laboratories.
• Establish a well-funded research program.
• Participate in service to the department, college, university and the profession.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a closely related program from an accredited university by the date of appointment.
• Demonstrable skills and potential for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and for developing and running laboratory-based experiments.
• Demonstrable experience or interest in establishing and maintaining sponsored research in a field related to chemical engineering.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Commitment to equity and inclusive excellence in the academic community, shown through research, teaching, service and work.

Preferred qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Record of publication in scholarly journals.
• Skills in sustainable engineering fields such as energy and the environment.
• Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment and to support department, college and university initiatives such as strategic planning, outcomes assessment and curriculum design.
