Applied Scientist – Computer Vision and Machine Learning

About the role

The Applied Scientist will lead end‑to‑end development of computer vision and machine learning solutions, turning research into measurable business impact for Zillow’s data‑driven products.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy scalable ML models and experiments in computer vision, including 3D vision and generative AI using images and video.
• Partner with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to translate ambiguous priorities into clear scientific requirements.
• Develop and maintain production‑quality data pipelines, features, and model artifacts.
• Design and analyze experiments to measure model‑driven feature impact and guide data‑informed decisions.
• Monitor model and data quality in production, investigate issues, and propose improvements for accuracy, fairness, and stability.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Data Science).
• 5+ years of professional experience applying computer vision, statistical analysis, or machine learning to real‑world data problems.
• Proven ability to work cross‑functionally and influence product or operational outcomes.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• Experience with ML libraries/frameworks such as PyTorch, SciPy, NumPy, and Transformers.
• Expertise in 3D computer vision and generative AI methods (preferred).
