Application Engineer – Defense Segment

About the role

Join 3M as an Application Engineer in the Defense Segment, working within the Aerospace & Defense business to develop and apply 3M technologies for defense customers worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Build strong technical relationships with defense primes, subsystem suppliers, platform integrators, government labs, and DoD organizations.
• Partner with customers to identify opportunities for 3M technologies across survivability, thermal management, EMI management, structural bonding, and electronics material applications.
• Lead technical engagement activities that drive product specification, qualification, and adoption within customer programs.
• Provide technical consultation, training, and application support through visits, design reviews, testing, field evaluations, and demonstrations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline (completed prior to start).
• Minimum five (5) years of experience in application engineering, product development, or translating customer needs into technical product performance criteria in a private, public, government or military environment.

Required skills

• Materials selection and qualification for defense assets.
• EMI management and thermal management expertise.
• Structural bonding and electronics material application knowledge.
• Project management experience.

• Compensation range $145,676 – $178,049 per year (base plus variable incentive pay).
