Animal Care Technician I – Comparative Medicine

About the role

The Animal Care Technician I supports the Division of Comparative Medicine by providing daily husbandry for laboratory animals used in research. This on‑campus position ensures animal welfare, compliance with regulations, and smooth operation of the animal facility.

Key responsibilities

• Handle, feed, water, and change cages for laboratory animals.
• Monitor animal health and report observations.
• Perform cage washing, autoclave operation, and sanitation of equipment and areas.
• Follow standard operating procedures and maintain regulatory compliance.

Required profile

• High school diploma.
• Prior experience working with animals; AALAS certification preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lb and work in hot, steamy, or odorous environments.
• Capability to perform repetitive bending, twisting, and pushing motions.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
