AI Engineer – NYC

About the role

Sequence is building an AI‑powered revenue platform and needs an AI Engineer to design and own the core AI infrastructure that powers reliable, production‑grade features for finance teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design and maintain the AI infrastructure that supports non‑deterministic models, including agentic workflows, prompt iteration, tooling, and evaluation pipelines.
• Build flexible, natural‑language‑driven approval routing that converts business rules into deterministic, auditable logic.
• Develop an intelligent collections agent that executes automated reminder and escalation workflows based on natural‑language instructions.
• Create and operate evaluation infrastructure (datasets, LLM‑as‑judge, regression tests, monitoring) to ensure model reliability.
• Collaborate with a small, fast‑moving engineering team to shape architecture and ship production‑ready features.

Required profile

• Proven experience shipping LLM‑based systems to real customers and handling production failures.
• Hands‑on experience designing agentic systems with embeddings, memory, tool use, and state recovery.
• Built evaluation pipelines and understand what reliable AI performance looks like.
• Comfortable writing resilient, business‑critical software and taking on‑call responsibility.
• Clear communicator who thrives in ambiguous, early‑stage product environments.
