Acute Care Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant – Critical Care Fellowship

About the role

Ochsner Health is seeking an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join a Critical Care Medicine Fellowship. The position works in a collaborative model with residents, fellows, attendings and staff, providing primary and urgent medical management, emergency stabilization, and education for patients and trainees.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver patient care using approved medical practice processes, including emergency stabilization of critically ill patients.
• Provide comprehensive care addressing physical, psychosocial, educational and safety needs of diverse patient populations.
• Teach and mentor residents, medical students and staff, and develop educational experiences for patients and families.
• Participate in research methodology and quality improvement initiatives.
• Adapt communication and care approaches to respect patient privacy and cultural preferences.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant medicine or Health Sciences, or graduation from an approved PA program.
• Master’s degree in Nursing.
• Current state license as a Physician Assistant (NCCPA certified) and as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (Family, Adult/Geriatric or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner) with appropriate certification.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Eligibility for prescriptive authority as defined by the state board.

Required skills

• Computer data entry and retrieval proficiency.
• Experience with Windows‑based applications and related software packages.
