Systems Administrator – IT Infrastructure

About the role

GDIT is looking for a Systems Administrator to join its IT Infrastructure and Operations team. The mid‑level role focuses on maintaining and optimizing servers, operating systems and related hardware across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure and maintain Windows and Linux servers, applications and hardware.
• Monitor system performance proactively and troubleshoot issues, escalating complex problems when needed.
• Implement and manage security controls such as firewalls, antivirus and intrusion detection systems.
• Perform regular backups, recovery procedures and manage user accounts, permissions and access controls.
• Automate routine tasks using PowerShell, Bash or Python scripts.
• Document configurations, procedures and troubleshooting steps.
• Collaborate with other IT teams on projects and evaluate new technologies to improve performance and security.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent experience.
• 3‑5 years of system administration experience.
• Active Secret clearance.
• CompTIA Security+ CE (or equivalent DoD 8140 certification).
• Strong problem‑solving, communication and teamwork abilities.

Required skills

• Linux and Windows operating systems.
• System administration and Windows Hyper‑V.
• Virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper‑V).
• Networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN).
• Scripting languages: PowerShell, Bash, Python.
• Security tools: firewalls, antivirus, IDS.
• Backup and recovery procedures.
• User account and access management.
