About the role
TYC Michigan is seeking a Product Design Engineer to lead the development of next‑generation automotive lighting solutions at its new Wixom, MI facility. You will work closely with customers, Asian engineering teams, and internal stakeholders to bring innovative lamp designs from concept to production.
Key responsibilities
- Interface daily with customer studios and engineering teams; attend and present at customer meetings.
- Perform lamp section layout, packaging studies, and collaborate with Asian PD engineers on design direction.
- Review and provide feedback on 3D CAD (CATIA V5) and 2D drawings; update engineering documents such as RFQs, DFMEA, BOMs, and design check sheets.
- Lead benchmarking activities in the US, create competitive reports, and drive prototype/mock‑up development.
- Conduct Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews and ensure DFM is integrated throughout the design process.
- Manage design review cycles with US and Asian teams, close open issues, and document solutions.
- Follow the APQP process, release 3D/2D data at DR2, DR3, Pre‑TKO, and TKO milestones, and organize data in SharePoint.
- Collaborate with tooling, molding, and manufacturing engineers to ensure manufacturability.
- Stay current on automotive lighting standards (ECE, CCC, FMVSS 108, SAE) and support testing/validation activities.
Required profile
- Proven experience interfacing with customers and cross‑functional engineering teams.
- Strong background in automotive lighting design and development.
- Familiarity with APQP, DFMEA, and DFM methodologies.
- Ability to synthesize technical information for presentations to customers and senior management.
