Maintenance Assistant

About the role

Monarch Communities (Monarch/Brandywine Senior Living) is hiring a Maintenance Assistant in Paramus, NJ. The position reports to the Maintenance Director and is a non-exempt, hourly, part-time role. It helps keep the community safe, clean and comfortable through routine maintenance, repairs and equipment service, and preparing apartments for resident move-ins.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to maintenance service requests from residents and staff, doing the work or advising the supervisor of additional resources needed.
• Perform general maintenance such as light electrical work, painting and carpentry.
• Monitor the building, grounds and equipment continuously and carry out routine, preventative maintenance and repairs.
• Handle, store and maintain chemicals and equipment safely, keeping SDS logs as required by OSHA.
• Keep up to date with the Emergency Preparedness Plan, help run monthly emergency drills and assist in evacuating residents during an emergency.
• Engage with residents respectfully and confidentially.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• 1 year of hands-on maintenance or related experience.
• Knowledge of maintenance and housekeeping practices and the laws and regulations governing them in the community.
• Able to stand, walk, sit, lift or carry up to 50 lbs and support residents intermittently, using proper body mechanics.

Required skills

• Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office (Windows, Outlook, Excel) and the ability to learn new applications.
