Lead Power Systems Engineer (Hybrid, Phoenix, AZ)

About the role

Black & Veatch is seeking a Lead Power Systems Engineer to join its Phoenix office in a hybrid work model. The role involves leading complex power system studies, coordinating with utilities, and guiding multidisciplinary teams on electrical design for water and wastewater projects.

Key responsibilities

• Lead energy optimization, power system coordination, arc‑flash hazard and electrical reliability analyses.
• Inspect construction, resolve electrical issues, and oversee start‑up and testing of major equipment.
• Coordinate with local utilities, review supplier submittals, and act as liaison between design teams and clients.
• Provide technical guidance on water/wastewater electrical design and support business development activities.

Required profile

• Professional Engineer license (or active pursuit).
• Minimum 5 years of electrical design, planning and construction experience, preferably in consulting and water/wastewater sectors.
• Experience in client‑facing and business development roles.

Required skills

• Power system analysis tools (SKM, ETAP or similar).
• Medium/low voltage distribution, variable frequency drives, standby diesel generators.
• PLC hardware/software, network configuration, HMI, SCADA, instrumentation, fiber‑optic cabling.
