Director of Signal Detection Science

About the role

The Director, Signal Detection Scientist leads the implementation of surveillance strategies to proactively detect and evaluate safety signals from post‑marketing data for complex pharmaceutical products. This senior position drives the development of novel, computer‑assisted tools and methodologies, and collaborates with global safety partners to ensure high‑quality safety outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead signal detection and validation activities for innovative products using aggregate safety data and external databases.
• Develop and implement product‑specific surveillance plans and present findings to Medical Safety Officers and Safety Management Teams.
• Mentor Signal Detection Scientists and support the evaluation of new analytical tools and data sources.
• Drive technical leadership across the Signal Management Group, including best‑practice reporting and efficiency improvements.

Required profile

• Advanced healthcare degree (RN, PharmD) with at least 9 years of pharmacovigilance experience.
• Minimum 3 years of full‑time signal detection experience and 1 year of clinical/patient‑care experience.
• Strong understanding of global health authority regulations and adverse event reporting.
• Excellent communication, organization, and analytical skills, with ability to work in a global matrix environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Excel for data manipulation.
• Experience with SAS JMP or similar analytical platforms.
• Familiarity with FDA AEMS, WHO VigiBase, and EMA EudraVigilance databases.
