Director, Debt Capital Markets – Corporate & Investment Banking

About the role

Santander CIB is seeking a Director to lead its Debt Capital Markets (DCM) franchise for Financial Institutions. Based in New York, you will act as a trusted advisor to senior executives of banks, insurers, asset managers and other regulated entities, delivering tailored financing solutions across multiple currencies.

Key responsibilities

• Originate, structure and execute DCM transactions for FIG clients, including investment‑grade, subordinated, senior unsecured, covered bond, securitized and hybrid capital markets.
• Provide strategic capital‑markets and funding advice to CFOs, treasurers and heads of funding.
• Develop and maintain long‑term client relationships, identifying new financing opportunities.
• Advise on capital‑structure optimization, regulatory capital, liquidity management and balance‑sheet strategy.
• Lead public and private debt offerings, coordinating syndicate, sales & trading, legal, compliance, risk, ratings and investment‑banking coverage teams.
• Monitor global fixed‑income markets, interest rates and credit spreads to inform client recommendations.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience (SVP/Executive Director) in Debt Capital Markets, preferably within the Financial Institutions Group.
• Proven track record of originating and executing complex debt transactions.
• Strong understanding of capital‑markets products, regulatory considerations and balance‑sheet dynamics.
• Ability to work collaboratively across Investment Banking, Corporate Banking, Syndicate, Sales & Trading and Risk functions.
