Clinical Lab Assistant – Anatomical Pathology

About the role

The Clinical Lab Assistant supports the Anatomical Pathology department by performing phlebotomy, specimen receipt, processing, and distribution while ensuring accurate data entry and compliance with safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform specimen collection, receiving, processing, and distribution to appropriate test sites.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as centrifuges and aliquoting devices, and document quality control procedures.
• Enter and retrieve data in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and manage inventory of supplies.
• Adhere to safety protocols for handling blood, body fluids, and hazardous materials.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; formal phlebotomy training preferred.
• Experience in a controlled environment, preferably 1 year of hospital‑based phlebotomy.
• Current Louisiana Laboratory Assistant (or Trainee) license, to be obtained within 180 days of hire.
• Ability to work independently, manage stress, and communicate professionally with patients.
