Chemical Engineer - Modeling & Simulation

About the role

Amentum, NASA's largest engineering solutions provider, is recruiting a Chemical Engineer - Modeling & Simulation for its teammate company Intuitive Machines. The engineer supports the advanced environmental control and life support systems analysis group and the Portable Life Support System (PLSS) group, simulating and evaluating life support systems for future NASA vehicles and habitats such as the Orion spacecraft and lunar or Mars mission vehicles.

Key responsibilities

• Correlate water and air process simulation models to test results.
• Model physical and chemical processes and size equipment performing life support functions for long-duration space flights.
• Evaluate and refine requirements for life support equipment supporting future missions.
• Perform other tasks assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, typically with 2-5 years of experience in the field or a related area; the position is posted at multiple levels and candidates may be considered at any level.
• Ability to develop simulation models of air and water purification, from detailed first-principle models to lumped-parameter models.
• Excellent technical writing, presentation and communication skills, and the ability to use data to draw conclusions.
• U.S. citizenship or permanent residency may be required, and completion of a U.S. government background investigation.
• Office environment, mostly sitting or standing, with occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.

Required skills

• Preferred: Aspen software experience and dynamic chemical process simulation.
• Programming in MATLAB, Simulink, Python, FORTRAN, C or Visual Basic.
• Experience with chemical processes associated with NASA life support systems.
• Masters or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering preferred.
