2028 2L Summer Associate - IP Litigation

About the role

McDermott is seeking 2L summer associates for its Intellectual Property Litigation group for a 10-week 2028 Summer Associate Program in Boston, Chicago, New York, Southern California (Los Angeles/San Diego) and Washington, DC. Each summer associate is paired with one or more mentors who give day-to-day guidance, and receives formal feedback at the midpoint and end of the program. The program gives meaningful responsibility and feedback consistent with a junior associate experience.

IP Litigation summer associates interested in the San Diego office will spend most of the summer in another location, with opportunities to meet and integrate with the San Diego team. Successful completion of the program opens the option to return as a first-year associate, including the option to join the San Diego office.

Required profile

• Enrolled at a US ABA-accredited law school with anticipated graduation in spring 2029.
• Strong record of academic and personal achievement.
• Genuine interest in pursuing a career at McDermott after graduation.
• Intent to live and practice in the geographic area of the chosen office.
• A technical background in fields such as aerospace/aeronautical engineering, biology, biomedical engineering, biotechnology, chemical engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, genetics, immunology, mechanical engineering, molecular and cellular biology, neuroscience, nuclear engineering, petroleum engineering or physics.

• Weekly compensation of $4,519, less applicable taxes and withholdings.
