Test & Evaluation Operator

About the role

Waabi is seeking an experienced Test & Evaluation Operator to run Class 8 autonomous and manual vehicles on closed courses and public roads. The role supports platform verification, safety assurance, and compliance for autonomous‑transport technology.

Key responsibilities

• Operate Class 8 vehicles to the full Vehicle Operator standard on both closed courses and public roads.
• Execute platform verification and release testing, including safety‑limit checks, driver‑override response, supervised autonomy stability, and fault injection.
• Produce precise written evaluations that distinguish baseline from novel behavior for engineering action.
• Lead vehicle‑dynamics and characterization campaigns such as tire evaluation, trailer stability, and axle‑weight verification, including off‑site proving‑ground tests.
• Administer knowledge and proficiency checks to certify operators and clear them onto platforms.
• Maintain operator documentation, start‑up/shutdown sequences, and SOP inputs, and ensure DOT and CVSA compliance for new platforms.
• Train operators across sites, escalate safety‑relevant findings, and stop testing when necessary.

Required profile

• 8+ years as a vehicle operator or commercial test driver, with at least 4 years on autonomous or ADAS‑equipped vehicles.
• Valid CDL Class A with current Medical Examiner’s Certificate, clean driving record, and required Tanker endorsement.
• Strong technical aptitude for autonomy platforms and ability to characterize vehicle behavior precisely.
• Familiarity with closed‑course and proving‑ground protocols, edge‑case and failure‑mode testing.
• Knowledge of FMCSA and DOT requirements (DVIR, Hours of Service, annual inspection, CVSA out‑of‑service criteria, 49 CFR Parts 393/396).
• Experience training, coaching, or certifying other commercial drivers is highly desirable.
