Technical Writer – V-BAT Service Bulletins

About the role

Shield AI is looking for an experienced V‑BAT Technical Writer to create and manage service bulletins for its unmanned aircraft. The role works closely with engineering, quality, manufacturing and field‑support teams to translate complex technical changes into clear, configuration‑controlled documentation for operators and maintainers. The ideal candidate has a background in aircraft or UAS maintenance, avionics, or technical publications.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with mechanical, electrical, software and systems engineers to develop accurate service bulletins covering inspections, corrective actions, modifications and operational limitations.
• Write step‑by‑step maintenance and inspection procedures that are safe, complete and usable in operational environments.
• Observe and document maintenance, assembly, troubleshooting, ground‑test and flight‑test activities to ensure procedures reflect actual work.
• Create supporting technical visuals such as annotated photographs, exploded views, system diagrams and wiring excerpts.
• Assess documentation impact of engineering changes, software releases and field feedback, and issue timely configuration‑controlled updates.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience in aircraft/UAS maintenance, avionics or technical publications.
• 3+ years of experience creating or validating maintenance procedures, service bulletins or other post‑delivery documentation for aerospace or defense systems.
• Proven ability to work directly with engineers, quality personnel and maintainers to obtain and validate technical information.
• Self‑sufficient, proactive work style with strong attention to technical accuracy and clarity.

Required skills

• Interpretation of engineering drawings, bills of material, CAD outputs and schematics.
• Creation and maintenance of technical visuals (photos, exploded views, system diagrams).
• Configuration‑managed document control, numbering conventions and revision tracking.
• Writing clear, sequential maintenance procedures, warnings, cautions and hazard statements.
