Spacecraft Flight Software Development Engineer (P2)

About the role

We are looking for a Spacecraft Flight Software Development Engineer to support NASA’s human‑rated flight software under the JETS II contract. The position is based in Houston and works directly with NASA JSC engineering teams to develop, modernize and certify embedded flight software for crewed missions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop deterministic C/C++ code and refactor legacy flight software modules.
• Support subsystem interface updates and contribute to fault‑management logic improvements.
• Participate in verification campaigns, hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing and anomaly analysis.
• Ensure software readiness for flight certification and compliance with NASA safety standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Computer, Software, Electrical, or Aerospace) and minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
• 5‑10 years of professional experience developing real‑time, safety‑critical embedded software.
• U.S. citizenship or permanent residency and ability to obtain a government background investigation.
• Willingness to work onsite at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston.

Required skills

• Proficiency in C and C++ for embedded systems.
• Experience with real‑time operating systems such as RTEMS, VxWorks or cFS.
• Deterministic scheduling, interrupt handling, low‑level driver development and subsystem interface integration.
• Python for tooling, test automation and analysis scripts.
• Unit testing using GoogleTest/GMOCK frameworks.
