Software Engineer, Developer Experience

About the role

As a Developer Experience Engineer at Cape, you will accelerate the productivity of our engineering teams by owning and evolving the internal platforms, tooling, and workflows that power the development lifecycle. You’ll partner closely with platform, product, and security teams to deliver reliable, secure, and AI‑enhanced development experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain internal tooling, SDKs, and scripts for daily engineering tasks, including project scaffolding, local development setups, testing utilities, and debugging aids.
• Own and improve the local development environment, managing containerized setups, secrets, service dependencies, and onboarding experience for new engineers.
• Evaluate, integrate, and configure AI‑assisted coding tools, establishing guardrails, prompt engineering, and measuring productivity impact.
• Design and implement infrastructure that streamlines code‑to‑artifact pipelines, reducing flaky tests, non‑reproducible builds, and pipeline latency.
• Document complex infrastructure, create runbooks, and drive adoption of new tools while deprecating ineffective ones.

Required profile

• 4+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on internal platforms, developer tooling, or infrastructure.
• Proven track record of identifying developer friction, building solutions, and measuring their impact.
• Strong proficiency in at least one modern backend language; Go is preferred, with Python, TypeScript, or Rust also acceptable.
• Hands‑on experience optimizing CI/CD systems at scale (e.g., GitHub Actions, Buildkite, Bazel) and deep knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
