Software Developer II – Android Apps

About the role

Join Esri’s Field Apps team to design and build next‑generation Android applications that enable frontline workers to collect real‑time data, manage field operations, and make smarter decisions. You will work with a cross‑functional group of developers, designers, and product owners to deliver high‑performance, offline‑capable mobile solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop Android apps from architecture through UI implementation (targeting API level 14+).
• Collaborate with designers and other engineers to translate user requirements into functional features.
• Implement field‑mapping, data‑collection, sensor‑network, and navigation capabilities.
• Tackle complex challenges such as offline data synchronization, GPS integration, and performance optimization.
• Advocate for Android best practices within Esri and represent the team at conferences.

Required profile

• 2+ years of commercial software development experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Enthusiasm for Android development and a passion for building impactful field‑focused tools.

Required skills

• Kotlin programming.
• Android platform development (API 14 and up).
• Object‑oriented design, data structures, and algorithms.
• Mobile performance optimization and caching techniques.
• Experience with GIS, RESTful web services, and version control (Git).
• Knowledge of native hardware components such as GPS and camera.
