Senior Embedded Software Engineer

About the role

Moog is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer for its Space and Defense Group in Santa Barbara. You will work on real‑time control software for turreted weapons systems, contributing to both new developments and existing platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Design, code, debug, and integrate new capabilities for turreted weapons systems.
• Debug issues with existing systems and integrate new capabilities in the Systems Integration Lab and in the field.
• Design and architect software that meets scalability, performance, and modularity requirements.
• Deliver executable software and documentation that satisfy quality, performance, and contractual requirements.
• Provide status reporting to management during project execution.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Computer, Software Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in design, development, and test of embedded real‑time control software (7+ years preferred).
• Ability to travel 10‑15% and obtain a U.S. security clearance.

Required skills

• Proficiency in C language (Java a plus).
• Experience with operating systems, especially RTOS, bare‑metal, and embedded Linux.
• Development of communication protocol drivers and stacks (networking, MIL‑STD‑1553, UART, SPI, I2C, etc.).
• Ability to read electronic part data sheets, electrical schematics, and protocol documents.
• Experience with Unix internals, low‑level driver software, communication interface software, and GUI development (optional).
