Senior Counsel – Blockchain & Digital Currencies

About the role

Mastercard is seeking an experienced senior lawyer to join its legal team and support the development of blockchain and digital currency products. The role will report to the Senior Managing Counsel for Blockchain and Digital Currencies and will work closely with product, sales and compliance teams to enable innovative payment solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal support for the strategic development and daily operations of Mastercard’s global blockchain and digital currency products.
• Advise on governance, licensing and regulatory aspects of digital currency initiatives, including future digital currency licenses.
• Identify and analyze legal, governance and regulatory risks and implement appropriate controls, policies and processes.
• Support product development, sales and other Core Payments matters that intersect with emerging technology.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure compliance with financial‑services regulations.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with strong commercial knowledge of technology and financial/payment services.
• Experience working with emerging technologies such as distributed ledger technology, digital assets, stablecoins and cryptocurrency.
• Proven ability to act as a trusted advisor to product and sales stakeholders.
• Highly motivated, intellectually curious and analytical.
