Corporate Counsel & Director, Legal Services

About the role

Greystar is seeking a Corporate Counsel & Director, Legal Services to lead employment litigation management and dispute resolution for its support services and operations groups. The role provides timely legal advice on U.S. labor and employment matters and partners with HR, Operations, and leadership to mitigate risk and ensure compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as primary legal advisor to HR, Operations, and business leaders on hiring, background checks, pay practices, scheduling, overtime, classification, timekeeping, discipline, performance management, accommodations, leaves of absence, separations and post‑employment obligations.
• Interpret and apply federal, state and local employment laws such as Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, NLRA, USERRA, OSHA, pay‑transparency, state wage‑hour, background‑check, drug‑testing and privacy regulations.
• Draft, review and update employment‑related documents including offer letters, onboarding/offboarding materials, arbitration agreements, restrictive covenants, separation and settlement agreements.
• Partner with HR on compensation, pay‑equity reviews, audits and remediation plans.
• Lead strategy and day‑to‑day management of employment litigation, class actions, arbitrations, pre‑litigation demands and threatened claims from intake through resolution.
• Select, engage and manage outside counsel, set strategy and budgets, define success metrics and monitor spend.
• Develop and drive consistent policies, training and processes to support a legally compliant workplace.

Required profile

• Extensive knowledge of U.S. federal, state and local employment law.
• Proven experience managing employment litigation, arbitrations and dispute resolution.
• Ability to advise HR and operational leaders on complex employment issues.
• Experience overseeing outside counsel and controlling legal spend.
