About the role

The South Carolina Daily Gazette is seeking an enthusiastic reporter to join its award‑winning, non‑partisan newsroom. This internship/volunteer position will support daily coverage of state government, politics, and policy, helping readers understand how decisions in Columbia affect South Carolinians.

Key responsibilities

• Produce regular, high‑quality news stories on legislative and agency matters.
• Generate story ideas, pursue leads, and conduct interviews with strong news judgment.
• Cover elections, take photos and video, and share content on social media platforms.
• Collaborate with editors and fellow reporters on projects and share research.
• Help expand the outlet’s digital presence and amplify stories through personal social channels.

Required profile

• At least three years of news reporting or editing experience (including student journalism).
• Excellent written communication, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.
• Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
